Writing Workshops
Explore Your Unique Story and Take It Successfully to the Page
These eight-week, in-person workshops, which can be repeated, are for writing enthusiasts considering a creative nonfiction (or occasionally fiction) project/undertaking worthy of development and commitment, whether for publication, performance or personal legacy. Through conversation and literary example, we will find a personal voice, and, with it, a writing style and personal narrative. In all cases, expect to get to the heart of the material—what is it you're trying to say and who's saying it.
We gather weekly for two hour sessions (Upper West Side, Manhattan). Writers e-mail pages to workshop members in advance for all to read.
Testimonials
"Kate Lardner is a life-changer. That may not be how she describes herself
but it is the result she creates; whether it's with small groups of compatible writers
(brilliantly selected for compatibility) or working on an individual basis, the effect of her
coaching, prodding, questioning, suggesting, critiquing, encouraging is a kind of magical alchemy,
enabling those of us fortunate to work with her to find the voice that is deep within us.
I will be forever grateful."
Rita Reidy Lennick, New York City
"In a million years I'd never have believed that I could be a writer.
It never entered my mind—saw myself as a talker. Kate however glimpsed something in me
that I didn't even know was there—persisted until I relented and now, a year and a half
after joining her workshop, I'm happy to say that she may have been right. Kate has coaxed me
down a road that I may have never taken but am certainly glad I did. It's an interesting process
to say the least, one which opens up the future as well as the past."
Ivy Lappin, New York City
"I had no idea where to start, but Kate Lardner got me going. With gentle prodding,
she helped me find my voice and learn to be a self-editor. Kate doesn't make writing easy, but in
a short time you'll have a grasp of what the process is all about. And if you're in therapy, you could
find that her method is a much better way to discover your inner self."
Paul Lustig Dunkel, New York City
"I always felt I had a decent memoir in me; I've led a colorful enough life. Once Kate
and I began working together though, my tales evolved and I found myself going places I'd never dreamed of.
Things I'd omitted because I thought no one would be interested became the most interesting parts of a piece.
Kate has encouraged me to dig deeper and dared me to face whatever I might find."
Adrienne Youngstein, New York City
